I’m dead tired. My feet are planning to go on a strike, if I walk any longer today.<\/p>\n

The Keenan House, where I’m staying in, is about a 15 – 20 minutes walk from the city centre. And there in the city centre is where I’ll have to take a transport to the Archaeology department in the main university compound. That’s a lot of walking back and forth, and it’s not good in rainy wet Durham during the autumn season. But I hope that could help me to lose some weight at least, or get myself prepped for one of those Silk Road treks\u00a0 by the end of the course.<\/p>\n

Why the walking? Because a return ticket by bus could cost up to GBP2.50, which is S$5-6 a day. I could use that amount for an end-of-the-year trip instead.<\/p>\n

Well, yesterday, we finally moved in and settled down at the hostel. Everything seems good, with some glitches here and there, though much more could be done to get the heaters to do their job – heat up the place. I hope they’ll stop their strike before winter comes.<\/p>\n

The living and dining area<\/em><\/span>:It was fun to shift the furniture around however we liked it. I also like that the glass planes here are full length, such that it gives a complete view of the hostel area.<\/p>\n

The single bedroom and hallway<\/em><\/span>: As can be seen from the green rope, that’s how we’re going to tie the clothes line for the moment, until we could find a better way to dry our clothes. We’re hoping now that the cupboard isn’t going to give way so soon.<\/p>\n

The double bedroom<\/span><\/em>: The pigs! They only get to sleep in the day, of course.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

The kitchen and toilet<\/span><\/em>: I’m so glad that we have a fully-functioning kitchen, though a lot of things are still missing from it – cutlery, crockery, plates, bowls etc. Even the toilet needs some getting used to, due to the lack of storage space. It’s a period of transition and more cultural shock, I guess.<\/p>\n

But then again, I have my own kitchen, and that’s probably all that matters. It’s not going to take me long to fill it up with edible stuff. The people here are nice and friendly – complete strangers smile at and greet one another along the streets. What more can I ask for?<\/p>\n

I can’t wait for lessons to start!<\/p>\n
