It&#8217;s already the middle of March. Time flies.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since the beginning of the year, we&#8217;ve had to battle with the school on food and lunch matters. The Ministry of Education has forced down on all of us parents at XXPS a draconian set of system that requires students to make pre-orders of their food online, and to receive them pre-prepared from a central kitchen. I shall not name the caterer, neither shall I name the school, but the food is not the most appetising around. If you had a chance to look at the photos online, you would need to have empathy for these students because they can&#8217;t even buy food that they like anymore. So much for healthy food, and when healthy food becomes tasteless, it makes one question what the authority is really trying to do. How can fried rice &#8216;taste like rice that&#8217;s not fried&#8217;? How can roast chicken taste &#8216;too salty for my liking&#8217;? How can &#8216;the rice taste hard and uncooked in my lunch&#8217;? Also, pasta using wholegrain spaghetti sounds like a grand plan, but not when you splatter a tasteless sauce over it to make it a double whammy. For the price of $2.20, the students get a pathetically small portion (smallest serving in the menu), kind of like 2 spoonfuls of rice and a few slices of meat. It&#8217;s even smaller than what the canteen uncless and aunties used to sell for $2. The vegetables are a handful though, apparently steamed and sad-looking carrot chunks and broccoli sprouts. Not surprising given how cheap these vegetables are.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It&#8217;s really disappointing. Even the teachers in his school prefer to go out and get lunch for themselves, or eat instant noodles in the pantry (that&#8217;s what the boy said he saw). It&#8217;s not right that students are robbed of their right to have a choice; when they have a chance to buy food from the canteen, they get to learn about what they like or not and in the process they learn about what&#8217;s healthy or not. When they are forced to preorder food that they don&#8217;t really like (but have to), it&#8217;s meaningless and puppetry style brainwashing without any tangible benefits. When students get out of school, the first thing they will reach out for is still MacDonald&#8217;s. So, what next?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Anyway, my point is, we are human beings and we have the right to a choice to eat healthy at times, and to eat unhealthy at other times. Food deemed as unhealthy does not need to be unhealthy as long as we know how to cook it right and as long as we don&#8217;t gorge ourselves everyday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This recipe of BBQ chicken wings &amp; drumlets uses very little oil, but nevertheless, tastes great because the chickens are left to cook till crispy. The marinade, when mixed in moderation, can also help to elevate the taste without the meat becoming too salty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In my opinion, I can have as many of these chicken wings as I would like without becoming fat because I eat in moderation and I exercise very regularly. We need to learn how to be responsible for our own health, and in doing so, learn how to eat right and healthy. This comes from intrinsic motivations through everyday interactions, not draconian systems implemented to benefit the monopolies and money suckers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And trust me, this recipe is really great, so easy, but so finger-licking good!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chicken wings \/ drumlets: 10<\/li>\n<li>Olive oil: 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Curry powder: 2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Ginger: 1cm, grated<\/li>\n<li>Garlic: 1 clove, minced<\/li>\n<li>Salt: \u00bd tsp<\/li>\n<li>White pepper: a pinch<\/li>\n<li>Sugar: 2 tsp<\/li>\n<li>Light soy sauce: 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Method<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marinate chicken wings and\/or drumlets with oil, curry powder, ginger, garlic, salt, pepper, sugar &amp; light soy sauce. Leave to marinate overnight in fridge.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grill in oven on top rack for 20min.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Flip over.
