And there, a plate of carbohydrates await.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Russet potato: 4 medium-sized, peeled, quartered<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Boiling water: about 1 litre, enough to cover potatoes<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Salt: a pinch + to taste<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unsalted butter: 1 tbsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grated cheddar cheese: 4 tbsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Skimmed milk: 1\/2 cup<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Black groundpepper: to taste<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Herbs: 1 tbsp (e.g. mint or thyme leaves, chopped finely)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a title=\"Aunt Bessie's Classic Gravy Granule\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mysupermarket.co.uk\/tesco-price-comparison\/Stock_Sauce_Mix_And_Gravy\/Aunt_Bessies_Classic_Gravy_Granules_170g.html\" target=\"_blank\">Gravy granules<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>(any flavours): 2 tbsp<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Method<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add potatoes to boiling water in a pot. Add a pinch of salt and boil for 10min till soft.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Drain water. Set aside 1\/2 cup of drained water for gravy.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Place pot back onto stove. Continue heating for about 5min till water evaporates completely from potatoes.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mash potatoes with butter and cheese. Add milk and mash till consistent.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add pepper, salt and herbs. Mix well.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add 1\/2 cup of drained water to gravy granules and mix well.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pour over mashed potatoes to serve.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><em>Tricks<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Don&#8217;t add too much salt to the potatoes to start with. Let the gravy flavour them instead.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add other types of flavourings to the potatoes, instead of salt, to make the mash tastier. My favourite (which is unconventional) is to add pesto sauce and\/or cheese slices to it. You can also add some texture by mixing in some chopped ham\/chicken rolls, spring onions and anchovies.
