It&#8217;s a massive effort, involving not just a lot of chopping but also a lot of arm strength to stir the yam paste. I personally love munching on yam cakes a lot, so I thought I might as well give it a try, especially since I&#8217;ll have to cook something for my dinners(ssss) next week anyway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Yam: About 2 small ones (600g), diced<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wheat starch\/corn flour: 100g<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rice flour: 400g<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Water: 5.5 cups<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Salt: 3 tsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">White pepper: 1\/2 tsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">5-spice powder: 1 tsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oil: 3 tbsp<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dried shrimp: 120g, roughly ground<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dried mushroom: 120g, soaked in water for 1 hr, chopped<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Deep fried shallot: 50g<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Red chilli: 4, chopped<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spring onion: 1 stalk, chopped<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">White sesame seed: 1 tbsp (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>Method<\/em><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Steam yam for 15min till cooked.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mix starch and flour with water. Stir till no more lumps are present.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stir in salt, pepper, 5-spice powder and 1 tbsp oil.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heat 2 tbsp oil in wok.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add shrimps and mushrooms. Fry till fragrant.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Add yam and fry for another 5min.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Turn heat off. Add in flour mixture and keep stirring till a paste forms.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Grease steaming pan with oil.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Place yam mixture into pan.
