Freshly-Baked Cookies To celebrate Christmas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/peepor.net\/pint\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/PICT0289-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"488\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was something that I&#8217;ve learnt to bake in Dresden, Germany &#8211; a course that was held for $6 per student for those studying German at the Goethe-Institut. Another purpose of this course was to have students bake enough cookies for the upcoming Christmas party (though we were not paid for getting ourselves involved in the mass production).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My course mates and I had fun cutting the cookies into many different forms that were not already available from the cookie-cutters, and most of us were challenged to come up with unique designs while trying to decorate the cookies with the many decorative condiments available.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong><em>Ingredients: (Gingerbread)<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Honey: 250g<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Sugar: 100g<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Butter: 125g, sliced<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">White flour: 500g, sifted<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Baking powder: 1 tbsp<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Gingerbread spice: 1 small packet (available in bakery stores)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Cocoa: 1 tbsp<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Egg: 1<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #888888;\"><strong><em>Method:<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Place honey, sugar &amp; butter in a saucepan and heat till mixture boils.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Pass the mixture through a filter. Set aside to cool.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Add flour, baking powder, spice and cocoa into the cooled mixture. Mix.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Add egg to mixture and whip till a smooth dough forms.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Wrap dough in cling wrap and let stand in fridge for 2 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Preheat oven at 180 degrees. Lay baking tray with baking paper. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Roll out the dough on a floured surface till 5mm thick.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Cut the dough with cookie-cutters of all shapes &amp; sizes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Bake cookies for 12-15 min till bright yellow.<\/span> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Below is a simpler, buttery version of the Pl\u00e4tzchen, without the ginger spice, though my preference lays with the above, what with the spices creating an extraordinary nice fragrant when the gingerbread cookies are done.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Ingredients: (Shortbread Cookies)<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Butter: 200g, sliced<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Powdered sugar: 100g, sifted<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Salt: 1 pinch<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Egg: 1<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Flour: 300g, sifted<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>Method<\/em><\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Place in a mixing bowl with sugar, salt, egg and flour.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Knead the mixture until a smooth dough forms.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wrap dough in cling wrap and let stand in fridge for 2 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Preheat oven at 180 degrees. Lay baking tray with baking paper.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Roll out the dough till 5mm thick on a floured surface.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cut the dough using cookie-cutters of all shapes &amp; sizes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bake cookies for 10-12 min till bright yellow.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Tricks<\/strong>:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Decorate the cookies!<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trick to this is NOT to bake too many cookies, because one runs out of ideas easily after, say, 10 cookies.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Use the following to decorate the cookies (the list is not exhaustive):<em> <\/em>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Melted chocolate\/vanilla chocolate<\/em><em> <\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Chocolate\/coloured sprinkles<\/em><em> <\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Edible glitters (which come in tubes of different colours)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" title=\"Rolling out the dough\" alt=\"Rolling out the dough\" src=\"https:\/\/peepor.net\/pint\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/PICT0287-300x225.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"487\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Pl\u00e4tzchen\" alt=\"Pl\u00e4tzchen\" src=\"https:\/\/peepor.net\/pint\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/Pl\u00e4tzchen-300x225.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"487\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, the fruits of labour of the 5 cookie monsters, as below. My personal favourite: the &#8216;hearty-bear&#8217; right at the left of the top first photo. It looks like a bear, but it&#8217;s supposed to be Santa-Claus.
