The common ones that are sold off-the-shelf are those wrapped with shrimp floss and not pork floss, perhaps because the latter isn&#8217;t halal. Hence we would always have to resort to making these for ourselves at home.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Making this snack calls for a very tiresome effort because after finishing up all fifty sheets of the spring roll pastry wrappers, we only made enough rolls to fill up about one medium-sized container &#8211; definitely not enough to feed ourselves at home, not to mention visiting guests during the Chinese New Year!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a title=\"Spring Roll Pastry Wrappers\" href=\"http:\/\/tyjfood.com\/spring-home\/spring-roll-pastry\" target=\"_blank\">Spring roll pastry wrappers<\/a><\/strong> (with egg): 1 pack of 50 sheets (125mm x 125mm)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><a title=\"Pork floss (Bee Cheng Hian)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.beechenghiang.com.sg\/shop-online\/floss-canisters-and-bottle\/pork-floss-245g.html\" target=\"_blank\">Spicy pork floss <\/a><\/strong>(or shrimp floss): 200g<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Egg: 1, beaten<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Oil: enough for deep frying<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong>Method<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Slice the wrappers into quarters.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">On each quartered wrapper, place a tsp full of pork floss in the center.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lift top corner of the wrapper and fold towards the center to cover the floss. Use fingertip to slide the fold back a little so as to pack the floss tightly.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Roll the folded portion over once to secure the floss.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fold in both left and right corners of the wrapper.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Brush some egg wash onto the remaining corner of the wrapper. Continue rolling to bind and secure the edge.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Repeat steps 2 to 6 for the rest of the wrappers and floss.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Heat oil in wok. In 3 separate batches, add the rolls to deep fry.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Continue stirring the rolls to even out the golden brown colour.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Remove and strain oil on kitchen paper after deep-frying for 1 min.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">Leave to cool for 15 min before serving or storage.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/peepor.net\/pint\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Deep-Fried-Pork-Floss-Roll.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-6827\" alt=\"Deep-Fried Pork Floss Roll\" src=\"https:\/\/peepor.net\/pint\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Deep-Fried-Pork-Floss-Roll.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"463\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Trick<\/strong><\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the wrappers dry out very quickly, slice them in piles of 10 sheets each time and leave the remaining sheets covered under a wet towel.
