Classic Chocolate & Walnut Brownie

Brownie is a typical dessert one will think of to order when one is in a cafe ordering coffee for tea. It’s an American dream that’s baked from chocolate and it can be made fudgy or cakey, depending on your preference. I like it slightly more cakey because the fudgy ones are usually sweeter and too much of a sweet tooth for me.

Japanese Salmon & Mushroom Pasta

I enjoy eating fusion Japanese dishes, i.e. Japanese mixed with European/Western influences. The modern Japanese cafes will usually serve a mixture of pasta or baked dishes that are cooked with miso paste, served with seaweed garnishes; drip or brewed coffee and nicely baked desserts. When we went to Japan, we ate at a local fusion Japanese cafe; when we went to Taiwan, we had a lunch stop at one as well. Back in Singapore, we just had one of these cafes open at Tiong Bahru Plaza (yay!) and it serves yummy pasta and pizzas too. 😀

Simple Avocado & Olive Oil Popsicles

This week sees some renovation works happening at home. We are re-doing the bedroom for the boy and taking this chance to create more storage spaces for the rest of the house including the kitchen, living room and study room. Hoisin Style Tofu Mushroom Stir-Fry

This is a nice and simple dish with all my favourite ingredients combined – tofu, spinach, mushrooms. The sauce is a godsend because it helps to elevate the ingredients and make them so tasty, with or without rice. All in all, it is a great dish to make for a simple meal if all you want is a fuss-free dinner after a busy day at work.

Simple & Plain Yaki Onigiri

‘Yaki’ means grilled, while onigiri means ‘rice ball’. I love this very simple recipe of yaki onigiri. It is clean, dense, filling and lovely as a meal. The crisp and browned sides of the onigiri makes them look very tempting and inviting to eat even though it’s just rice and nothing else. If desired, you can also plump it up and press the rice together with some savoury ingredients such as tuna, salmon, corn, cheese slices, sesame seeds, roasted seaweeds etc.  They can be smoked or canned or boiled. Very flexible, accommodating and easy to make.
