Alright, so this isn’t really a Halloween recipe, but, given a creative mind and some lovely decorations, it could definitely be ‘dressed up’ to look scary.

And so this gave the guy a good reason to try out yet another ice-cream recipe – this time with the custard base made from scratch. He believed that doing so would create a version of ice-cream that is much softer and lighter in texture. He did achieve the desired outcome, but this outcome must come with an additional amount of effort put into making the ice-cream base first.

해물파전, literally seafood (해물) & spring onion (파) pancake (전), is one of the most common snacks found at street side stalls and in markets in Korea. As one of the favourite snacks of the Koreans, I’ve watched these pancakes appear many times in variety and drama shows. They always looked huge and delicious with the spread of ingredients embedded in the cooked batter.

I finally had a taste of this pancake in a local Korean restaurant (run by a Korean), which was quite tasty and which looked authentic. Here is my attempt to recreate the taste of the Korean snack, but with an added spiciness to suit our peppery taste buds.

Sesame Ginger Chicken To Flavour The Plain Rice

I am not very sure if this dish is authentically Chinese, but from the way it is cooked, it does very much resemble the Chinese style of cooking. Nevertheless, sesame ginger chicken is definitely distinct from the more commonly available sesame oil chicken (I eat sesame oil chicken almost everyday in my staff canteen). It is a recipe that’s unique, yet simple enough to attempt; it is not as oily, yet strongly flavoured with its amalgamated injection of ginger and orange fragrance.

1984 is a political fiction and dystopian science fiction, one of George Orwell’s greatest classics. He penned down his horrible vision about a ‘negative utopia’ that could emerge if a governing body of authority were to be left unchecked and unchallenged. The admonitions that he gave about the horrible world in which nobody enjoyed anymore freedom and love and where everybody behaved according to the wills and powers of Big Brother were at first exaggerating and laughable, yet these visions are able to strike a cord in most wary readers who identify with the stubborn nature of politics and power, and how a blind combination of both could possibly lead to a social system that is worse than anarchy – a social system containing imperceptibly lost souls and individuals who are incapable of generating personal thoughts. It is this indubitable wariness that George Orwell had hoped to awaken among those who are as yet blissfully ignorant or lost.

This spaghetti omelette is an uncomplicated (perhaps lazier) alternative to the authentic Spanish frittata, the latter of which involves much more effort and skills (to flip the omelette one way and the other) than the former. It is also a good way to make use of any leftover spaghetti in the fridge to churn out a simple yet refreshingly different meal that contains everything you need in one pan.
